Nearly 37 trekkers, including some Australians, were trapped on Kalindi-Badrinath route due to inclement weather and snowfall since Friday, are now safe and efforts are on with the help of Indo-Tibetan Border Police to bring them back to Joshimath, official sources said.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to hit Uttarakhand with the higher reaches receiving heavy snowfall since Friday.
The weather bureau has warned the trekkers not to venture into the higher areas in the next two-three days and said that landslides can occur due to incessant rains.
The higher reaches of Munsairi and Johar Valley in Kumaon region and Gangotri and Yamunotri areas in Garhwal region were receiving heavy snowfall since Friday which brought down the temperature considerably in the hilly areas and plains, including Dehradun.
