Normal life remained paralysed in the Kashmir valley for the second consecutive day on Saturday in response to a general strike called by separatists' coordination committee in support of their demand for 'self determination'.

While business establishments remained closed, work in government and semi-government offices, banks and other financial institutions as well as educational institutions were paralysed across the valley, official sources said, adding transport remained off the roads in various districts.

Gun-totting policemen and paramilitary forces patrolled the deserted streets in the city, which along with Pattan area of Baramulla district witnessed violent demonstrations on Friday.

Twenty people, including eight security personnel, were injured on Friday in clashes at dozen places in the Kashmir Valley following a 'bandh' call given by separatists.

Reports from district headquarters said a complete shutdown was observed in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and other tehsil and block headquarters across the Valley.

The coordination committee comprising of both factions of Hurriyat Conference, JKLF, Kashmir Bar Association, Kashmir Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Traders Federation besides religious and social organisations has given a call for a general strike in support of their demand for 'self determination'
