Karnataka Law Minister Suresh Kumar on Friday said sub inspectors will be held directly responsible if attacks on minorities continue in the state.

Suresh Kumar told media persons that the message had been passed on to all police stations in Karnataka to ensure that no Mangalore-like incident should occur in the state.
He said a stern warning had been issued in this regard and added that the entire burden of providing security to minority institutions will lie with the respective police stations.
Kumar also said that the process of appointing a retired judge to head the judicial probe into the Mangalore violence will be completed in the next two days.
Meanwhile, sources in the Law Department of Karnataka told rediff.com that they will study the Centre's advisory and, if need be, give its reply. However, they said there was no compulsion on the state to give a reply.
A Law Department official said that an advisory is issued only to ensure that peace is maintained in the state. The advisory, which is issued under Article 355 of the Indian Constitution, states, 'it is the duty of the Union to protect states against external aggression and internal disturbance, and to ensure that the government of every state is carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Constitution.'
