Two persons, including a police official, were critically injured in a grenade explosion in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Monday.

Constable Ashwani of Special Operations Group and a woman identified as Naseema were injured when a grenade exploded inside a house at village Keller in Pulwama district on Sunday evening, they said.

The police said the grenade was hurled by suspected militants targeting the constable while the locals alleged that Ashwani was carrying the grenade which went off.

The constable went inside the house and started intimidating the occupants with a grenade which exploded causing critical injuries to him and a woman, the residents alleged.

Massive protests erupted in the area as locals took to streets demanding shifting of the SOG camp, the sources said, adding senior police officers rushed to the scene and assured the protestors that the constable has been placed under suspension.
