Bomb disposal experts from the Intelligence Bureau and the National Security Guards are leaving for Assam this evening from Delhi. The Assam blasts are expected dominate the Union cabinet meet scheduled for the evening, at which the national security advisor and the and home secretary are expected to brief the ministers.
The Centre is waiting for a detailed report. The border is being sealed, and cell phone interceptions are being analysed, sources said.
The Union home ministry has sought an immediate report from the Assam government on the serial blasts on Thursday.
Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, who is closely monitoring the situation, spoke to Assam chief secretary to find out the details of the incidents, a home ministry spokesman said. The ministry is keeping a constant watch on the situation, he said.
The Home ministry has taken a major decision to enhance the security and protection to oil-fields and refineries in view of the recent incidents of terrorism. Gupta has sought a detailed report from the state government on the blasts in several districts including Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Shivraj Patil strongly condemned the blasts.
Eleven serial blasts rocked several districts of Assam, killing atleast 30 people. The powerful bombs went off simultaneously shortly before noon.
