The pro-talks faction of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom faces public ire over the killings of five youths from Kakopathar area in Tinsukia districts early this year and whose bodies were dug out from a pit inside a jungle in the area recently.
ULFA's 28th battalion used to have camps in the area where the bodies of the five youths were dug out on September 27, 29 and October 21, one after another by the police after being spotted by local villagers.
The five youths went untraced from Kakopathar area in February this year when the 'A' and 'C' companies of ULFA's 28th battalion were yet to declare unilateral truce and come overground.
The leader of the ULFA doves Jiten Dutta was then commanding the 28th battalion.
As the recovery of decomposed bodies has whipped up public ire in the area, the ULFA in an e-mailed statement to the media pointed the accusing finger at pro-talks faction leader Jiten utta, holding him responsible for killings of the five youths from Kakopathar area.
The police have suspected that these youths -- Anil Gohain, Birbol Dahotia, Mridul Borpatra Gohain, Swaraj Moran and Chandra Gohain -- were abducted and killed by the ULFA men from the 28th battalion, suspecting them to be informers of security forces.
This has put the doves from the outfit's A and C companies of the 28th battalion in a worse situation.
Meanwhile, a mass uprising is brewing in Kakopathar area of late against the killings of the five innocent youths by the banned ULFA after suspecting them to be spying on behalf of the security forces engaged in counter-insurgency operations in the area.
The leaders of the pro-talks faction of the ULFA, Jiten Dutta, Mrinal Hazarika and Joon Bhuyan have denied their involvements in the killing of the five youths saying that they had ceased to operate in Kakopathar area when the killing took place.
