CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Wednesday met BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati at her official residence in Lucknow and is understood to have discussed the country's political situation with her.
The meeting, which assumes significance in the view of the formation of a possible Third Front before the coming Lok Sabha polls, lasted for about two hours.
Although no official word was available about what transpired at the meeting between the two leaders, it is understood that they discussed the emerging political scenario in the country.
BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra was also present during the meeting.
