Angry students on Wednesday torched an air-conditioned coach of a train in Patna on the second day of protests against the attack by activists of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena on north Indian candidates during a railway recruitment exam in suburban Mumbai.

Hundreds of slogan-shouting students descended on Barh railway station in Rural Patna demanding that Thackeray, who has been arrested, be tried for sedition, and set ablaze the coach of the Danapur-Durg South Bihar Express, Superintendent of Railway Police (Patna) D N Gupta said.

All passengers were safe as they had disembarked before the students set afire the bogie, Gupta said.

Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force personnel rushed to spot and used baton charge to disperse the protesters.

Meanwhile, two cases have been filed in Bihar against the MNS chief at different places, police sources said in Patna on Wednesday.

The cases were filed in Patna and Muzaffarpur against Raj Thackeray for assaulting students in Mumbai.

A FIR was lodged by some students, who arrived in Patna from Mumbai on Tuesday after being beaten by MNS workers. The government railway police at Patna railway station lodged a case against Raj Thackeray and his supporters for assaulting the students.

"A case was registered on the basis of the statement of the students who returned here on Tuesday after being assaulted by MNS activists," Railway deputy superintendent of police Suresh Choudhary said.

Choudhary said that case against Thackeray and his supporters lodged under sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 324 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code.

Some of the sections are non-bailable. "We will  send a copy of  the FIR to the Maharashtra police for action in a day or two" Choudhary said.

In Muzaffarpur district, a lawyer has filed a case against Thackeray charging him with instigating MNS workers to beat up Bihari examinees.
