Detonating bombs and exploding grenades are Manipur militants' latest tactics of late to remain in headlines as well as to cover up for their 'dwindling prowess' to take on the security forces, according to a top security official.

The high security Imphal city in the insurgency-ravaged state has been made to bear the brunt with militants from different outfits carrying out 11 bomb and grenade blasts so far this year. The ultras haven't spared even the high-security the VVIP colony in the capital city.

In fact, the year started with a grenade attack on the residence of an Independent MLA, S Kunjakishore at Tera in Imphal West district on the very first day of the current year. Fortunately, the grenade did not explode.

A grenade blast rocked the residence of Congress legislator Hemochandra  Singh at Singjamei in Imphal West district on February 24.People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak) militants  detonated a blast inside the high-security state Assembly complex on March 8 and that was followed by another grenade explosion at residence of MLA, Th Pheija Leitong in Imphal West.

The VVIP Colony where the Chief Minister's official residence was located in the city was rattled by a powerful explosion on April 24. The bomb was strapped to a scooter parked in the area under the nose of large deployment of security personnel.

On August 24, four grenades were hurled, one after another, at the native place of state agriculture minister Loken Singh in Bishnupur district while a bomb fired at the private residence of food and civil supplies minister Y E Singh  on August 28 failed to go off much to the relief of security personnel .

Even a bomb was hurled at the chief minister's residence on September 1. On September 5, unidentified militants lobbed a grenade at the residence of MLA Thangjam Nandkishore in Imphal East district.

The Prepak ultras triggered a grenade blast near chief minister's official residence on October 19 night  thereby spoiled a  dinner party hosted by the  state Director General of Police Joy Kumar Singh on the raising day of the force at a banquet hall in the VVIP area.

Meanwhile, no arrest was so far made in connection with yesterday's bomb blast that left 17 dead and 30 injured in the state capital city where tension gripped the atmosphere.
