Security was tightened in Imphal on Monday in the wake of a blast near the official residence of Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, official sources said on Monday.

Sources said police and other security personnel were deployed at vulnerable places and frisking of passers-by has been intensified to detect the movement of armed ultras.

Sources said extra forces have been deployed around the chief minister's residence. They said Sunday's bomb explosion around 8.30 pm near the CM 's official residence was the second such incident in the past two months.

There was no casualty in the explosion. It was not yet known whether the bomb was planted or hurled by unidentified militants, the sources said, adding the explosion occurred while the Manipur police was celebrating its 116th raising at the 1st Manipur Rifles battalion complex near the CM's residence. On September 1, militants of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) exploded a powerful bomb inside the CM's official residence complex. So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for Sunday's explosion.
