Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natrajan has denied the charge that the Gongress has reached an understanding with Farooq Abdullah, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and promised to make him the chief minister in case his party wins the forthcoming state assembly elections that would be held in seven phases between November 17, and December 24.
"I am not aware of any deal between the Indian National Congress and Farooq Abdullah," she said in response to a question. Natarajan said that the meetings of party electoral college were already taking place and when a decision was taken it would be intimated to the media.
Talking about the violence unleashed by Raj Thackery's supporters against the students who had gone to Mumbai to take part in job interview on Saturday, Natarajan said, "The Indian National Congress party is making its stand clear that it deplores acts of vandalism against the students who had gone for their interviews. This is against the spirit of the constitution."
She rejected outright, the suggestion that the Congress was propping up Raj Thackeray. "We do not believe in propping someone. We hope the chief minister of Maharashtra would take quick action against the culprits," Natarajan said.
