The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday stated that the situation in riot-affected districts of Darrang and Udalguri in north Assam was still tense and warranted imposition of President's Rule in view of the 'failure' of the state government to tackle the station in the right way to instill confidence among the affected populace.
BJP vice president, Jual Oram, the leader of the party's fact-finding team that visited the violence-affected areas and relief camps of riot-displaced people, said that the BJP would ask for imposition of president's rule in Assam as the riot-hit people had said that they were still gripped by a sense of panic in the absence of adequate security arrangements to protect their lives and property.
The BJP leader called upon Assam government to make public the list of people killed during the violence, with details of property damaged, number of cases registered and number of persons arrested so far. Oram called for adequate compensation of those killed and injured in the violence.
Oram demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge to pinpoint the culprits and conspirators as the CBI inquiry as proposed by Assam government would not suffice given the vast areas affected by the violence.
