Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Wednesday met sulking Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, causing a buzz in state political circles.

The SP leader's meeting comes in the backdrop of the Congress high command giving a cold shoulder to Rane's plea for removal of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Ever since he joined Congress in 2005, the former Shiv Sainik has been eyeing Deshmukh's chair but his repeated attempts to dislodge the veteran Congress leader have failed.

There was no word on either side on contents of the Singh-Rane meeting, which took place at Rane's residence 'Swanand'.

Rane has locked horns with Deshmukh on many occasions, the latest being on allotment of land at Navi Mumbai for Videocon's project.

Rane has also given rise to speculation about his next political course by inviting Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar for the launch of his Marathi newspaper on October eight.
