Most schools in Assam decided to observe Children's Day with prayer meetings, peace conclaves and trauma counseling sessions, in the wake of serial blasts that claimed 81 lives, barely 15 days ago.
The mood at Dispur Lower Primary School remained somber on Friday, in memory of 5-year-old Moromi Sarma, who was on her way back from school with her father when the blast rocked Ganeshguri area in the city. Both of them died in the hospital later.
"Our children are still in shock because of Moromi's demise and the dreadful blast near the school. We are yet to hold classes as per the normal routine. There is no question of celebrating Children's Day. Instead, we have decided to pay respect to Moromi, "said Headmistress Anima Das.
The prayer meeting witnessed a heart-rending moment when Moromi's mother, who visited the school today to join the prayer meeting held in memory of her daughter, broke down in front of a portrait of her daughter. The school itself still bears the scars of that day, with damaged window panes and walls yet to be repaired.
Each and every school in Guwahati remembered the blasts victims in their own way. Students in Maria's Public School drew sketches, made collages and held prayers.
The government-run Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School organised a trauma counseling session to help its students cope with the aftermath of the dastardly terror strike.
ISF-IM claims responsibility for Assam blasts
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced that the government would bear the entire cost of education of children from families which have lost their sole bread earner in the serial blasts.
