The Assam government has agreed to recommend an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the October 30, serial blasts in view of a resolution adopted by a an All party meeting convened by the chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday night.
According to an official source, the all-party meeting condemned 'terrorist and fundamentalist' forces for carrying out the serial blasts that killed over 90 persons injured over 400 in the state. The meeting resolved that the investigation into the serial blasts be handed over to the CBI.
All the political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Asom Gana Parishad, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India-Marxist, Nationalist Congress Party and Assam United Democratic Front, asked the government to leave no stone unturned to nab the culprits and punish them.
The political parties observed that the mass uprising in the state against terrorism in the wake of serial blasts was a very positive sign and underlined the need to strengthen the mass movement against terrorism.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team of the Assam police investigating the serial blasts arrested a former 'army chief' of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland, Sobin Boro and a Bhutanese national living in exile in Nepal, Tenzing G Zangpo from a rented house in Guwahati for their links to the blasts.
Police sources informed that the October 30 terrorists attack was given the final shape at a meeting at Sobin Boro's rented house in Guwahati on October 17 and some of the persons arrested earlier by the police were present in the meeting. Both the arrested were remanded to ten days police custody by a local court in Guwahati.
On the other hand, the Assam Police nabbed two other blasts suspects, R Serja and B Pwthai during a search operation at the truce-time designated camp of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland on Wednesday. The police and paramilitary force personnel had been laying siege to the NDFB camp since Monday night.
Meanwhile, NDFB general secretary Govinda Basumatary reiterated that the outfit which is now in truce, was in no way involved in the serial blasts. He said, the NDFB as an organization shouldn't be held responsible in case any of its members was found to be involved. He stated that the NDFB aspired to restoration of peace through dialogue with the government of India and would never indulge in such barbaric act of terror.
