A MiG-21 trainer fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in upper Assam's Sibsagar district on Wednesday morning, but the two pilots bailed out safely.
The MiG crashed at Mathurapur near Gariapathar at about 10.45 am, within three minutes of flying from the Chabua airbase in Dibrugarh district, IAF sources said.
No more MiG crashes, hopefully
Squadron Leader Subhandeep and Wing Commander Nanda, the two pilots of the MIG jet aircraft, ejected and landed safely with the help of their parachutes, the sources said.
Air Force and police officers have rushed to the spot and are investigating the crash, they said.
MiG-21 aircraft are commonly derided as 'Flying Coffin' because of the frequent accidents involving the planes and the casualties suffered.
