A delegation of Assam's main Opposition party, Asom Gana Parishad, on Monday met President Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhawan to demand dismissal of the Congress-led coalition government in Assam for its failure to protect the lives and property of common people in the state that was rocked by serial explosions on October 30.
According to a source in the AGP headquarter in Guwahati, the seven-member delegation of the party led by its president Chandra Mohan Patowary included for MPs of the party besides two other senior leaders.
The delegation apprised the President Patil of the 'ground law and order situation' in the blasts-rattled state and alleged that the incumbent government in the state had totally failed to prevent terror strikes in the state and hence be dismissed.
The AGP accused Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government being blind to growing activities of Islamic fundamentalist in the state.
Meanwhile, Gogoi on Monday chaired a crucial meeting of the strategy group of the counter-insurgency Unified Command in state capital to work out fresh strategy to tackle the changing tactics used by terror groups in the state.
The meeting was attended by Lt Gen B C Jaswal, the General Officer Commanding 4 Corps of the Army that spearheads the counter-insurgency operations in the state in coordination with the police.
Senior officials of Assam Police, Paramilitary forces, State Police Intelligence Bureau were also present in the meeting.
