Seven terrorists including a top commander of the Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit were killed on Saturday in two separate encounters in Jammu region of the state, according to the police.
Talking to rediff.com, the Jammu zone inspector general of police, K Rajendra said the army and police had killed four terrorists of the Hizbul Mujaheedin including a top commander during a operation in the hilly Doda district on Saturday.
Rajendra said the security forces had cordoned off the forested area in Dessa village of Doda district early on Saturday morning on specific information that terrorists were holed up there.
"Four militants including deputy district commander identified as Hashim Khan were killed in the encounter," Rajendra said.
In another encounter, alert troops of the army foiled an infiltration bid in the Saujian area on the Line of Control in the Poonch district of Jammu region on Saturday.
"The militants were challenged to surrender, but they opened heavy fire at the surrounding troops. A fierce gunfight ensured during which three militants were killed. Search operations are still on in the area," a senior police officer said.
