With tens of thousands of quake affected people in China's southwest Sichuan province rendered homeless, Beijing has asked New Delhi to rush more tents and portable shelters for the victims.
In a swift response, India will use its fleet of giant IL-76 to rush thousands of tents and potable shelters to Chengdu, a defence ministry official said in New Delhi.
Three more IL-76 flights will airdash these items to the quake affected people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from IAF's Kanpur base.
"Tents are being procured on emergency basis from the Kanpur based Ordnance factories and packed and flown to Chengdu," officials said.
The flights from India have been given the codename OP Sahayta.
One more IL-76 landed in Chengdu on Wednesday carrying clean portable water for the quake victims. India has so far airlifted 75 tonnes of relief material for the quake affected people, officials said, adding that there was also requests for rushing in wheel chairs.
