An army jawan on Sunday allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle inside a camp in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
Sepoy Ashok Kumar shot himself dead with his service rifle around 3 pm while on guard duty at Kangan camp, 40 km from Srinagar on the Srinagar-Leh National highway, they said.
They said the motive behind the jawan killing himself was not known immediately.
This is the second suicide within the past four days.
Earlier on Thursday, a jawan Krishan Kumar hanged himself at the air force headquarters at Koil in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
Suicides among army and other paramilitary forces have shown an alarming increase over the past couple of years prompting the authorities to take special classes to minimise stress, which is said to be the major cause behind them.
Suicides by civilians is also on the increase in the Valley.
