Three militants of the proscribed National Democratic Front of Bodoland, now in truce with Government of India, were killed and two others injured when rival armed miscreants raided and set fire to a truce-time camp of the militant group at Gasskata in western Assam's Kokrajhar district at around 5:30 pm on Tuesday.
Police sources in Kokrajhar said that an armed group of unidentified miscreants in two vehicles had opened indiscriminate fire on the NDFB camps before setting fire to it.
Three NDFB cadre were killed and two others injured in the attack while rest of the militants managed to flee for their lives. Nineteen NDFB cadres were housed in the camp that was razed to ground in the raid.
The police said the identity of the raiders was yet to be ascertained. The incident occurred on the day when the association of the surrendered NDFB militants called for a bandh in Kokrajhar district in protest Monday's killing of their secretary Bigarai Basumatary by suspected NDFB militants. Bigrai's body was recovered on Monday.
The police have increased security in and around all the truce-time NDFB camps in western and northern Assam following the attack.
The NDFB has been in ceasefire with Government of India since June 2005 and their cadres are supposed to stay in identified truce-time camps.
