Four militants and a paramilitary central reserve police force (CRPF) trooper were killed on Sunday in two encounters across the valley.
The police said CRPF troopers and special operations group (SOG) of the state police jointly surrounded a house in the Shopribagh Chatterhama village on the outskirts of summer capital Srinagar in the morning.
The cordoning troops came under heavy fire from the holed militants, resulting in the death of a CRPF constable identified as K.C.Sahu while four others including a sub-inspector of the police sustained injuries, a senior police officer said.
In the ensuing encounter, security forces killed two militants.
In another encounter in the south Kashmir Shopian district, two militants of Lashkare Taiba (LeT) outfit have been killed, according to police.
The encounter in the Narwan Sadhav forest area started after security forces surrounded it for searches.
