Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh and nine other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are likely to get a clean chit in the case of serving opium, with the Rajasthan police deciding to file a report in court saying that the allegations against them have not been established.
The crime branch of the Rajasthan police, which investigated the case, has concluded its probe as neither any opium was found nor the allegation of its serving and consumption at a public feast in Singh's village near Jasol in Barmer district on October 31 last year could be proved, police sources said on Thursday.
The sources said after around seven months of investigation into the case under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Prevention) Act, the crime branch has now decided to file the final report before a Jodhpur court.
Besides Singh, nine BJP leaders including three Rajasthan ministers, G Tiwari, Narpat Singh Rajvi and Madan Dilawar, were named in the police complaint filed by Jodhpur-based lawyer Om Prakash Vishnoi before a special court in Jodhpur dealing with cases under the NDPS Act.
The court had directed the state police to register a case on November five last year. It was later handed over to the crime branch for investigation.
