Four people were killed and 46 others injured in an explosion triggered by a fire inside the Reliance-owned Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited plant in Raigad district's Nagothane town.
"One worker died on the spot and three others on way to hospital. All the injured have been hospitalised with burn injuries," Raigad collector Ramesh Survade said.
The accident occurred when the hydrocarbons and wielding gas came into contact in the plant now under maintenance. The Nagathone plant town was shut for maintenance on Thursday.
The fire broke at around 11 am and soon after triggered an explosion, the collector said, adding at the time of the accident around 205 maintenance workers were present in the premises.
