A Mumbai court on Thursday acquitted 12 people who were accused in the 1992-93 Mumbai riots cases.
The court acquitted the 12 persons, whose case was registered with the Vakola police, owing to lack of evidence.
Metropolitan Magistrate R C Bapat-Sarkar acquitted Mohammed Nazir Mohammed Shaikh and 11 others of all charges. During the trials, four witnesses -- all of them police personnel -- were examined.
Following the demolition of the Babri masjid, riots had broken out in the metropolis. This particular case dates back to January 8, 1993. The 12 were arrested for allegedly indulging in arson and rioting.
