Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Wednesday said his party had not received any proposal from the Congress for joining the UPA government neither had it given any proposal in this regard.

''We have not given any proposal nor have we received any,'' Singh told reporters referring to a media report saying his party might join the central government reversing its earlier position of supporting the government from outside.

Asked specifically if he would be a minister in the Cabinet, he said "ask Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Mulayam Singh Yadav. It is not such a thing as can be had through application. I have not applied for a ministership. Newspapers have made me a minister."

Singh was speaking to the press after meeting Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at her residence in south Kolkata.

Emerging from the meeting, Singh told newsmen along with Mamata that he had not come to meet her as an emissary of the Congress. ''I am here in my personal capacity. My relation with Mamata dates back to a long time.''

Singh said Samajwadi Party had been at one with Mamata's movement in the state against Left Front government's policies on Nandigram and Singur, her fight for the protection of rights of farmers and small traders and against entry of big business houses into retail trade.

He said SP would fully back the issues raised by Mamata in Parliament.
