Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi has undergone angioplasty at a hospital in Kolkata where his condition is now stated to be stable.
Authorities at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital said Dasmunsi was first diagnosed to be suffering from acute coronary syndrome. A subsequent angiogram revealed coronary artery disease. The arterial obstruction was removed via surgery late Sunday night and the minister is now on oral diet.
The 62-year-old minister is in the ICCU under observation of cardiologists Rabin Chakraborty and Ramesh Seshadry and house physician Tirthankar Chowdhury. He was flown into the city by a special BSF airplane from Purnea on Sunday after he complained of chest pain during a journey in Malda district.
