Authorities did not relax the curfew in Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Bhaderwah on Monday following the deaths of two young men in violent protests against reversion of land transfer to Amarnath board, officials said.

It was relaxed in Jammu city for two hours each in the morning and evening yesterday to enable people to procure essential commodities.

However, with successive deaths of two young men last evening and early Monday, the authorities have decided not to relax the curfew as a preventive measure against further violence.

Ramesh Chander of Pir Mitha died on Sunday after he fell off the roof while being chased by policemen during a protest demonstration against revocation of land transfer to the Amarnath shrine board.

Manjeet Singh, a protestor wounded in a grenade attack during a rally against the same government order, succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College Hospital in the city.

Singh was among 21 injured in the attack that took place at Seribazar in Bhaderwah town in Doda district on July 2.

Meanwhile, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti, spearheading the ongoing agitation in Jammu division, has extended the bandh by another 48 hours.
