Flooding and house collapses triggered by torrential rains killed at least 32 people in Uttar Pradesh in the last two days, pushing the statewide death count this monsoon season closer to 50.
Low-lying areas were submerged raising the spectre of water-borne diseases afflicting the state as normal life was hit following heavy rains, official sources said.
All major rivers in the state were rising steadily with Ghagra in Ayodhya and Sharda at Paliyan Kalyan crossing the red mark.
Most fatalities occurred due to house collapses, they said adding a number of heads of cattle also perished in incessant rains which claimed ten lives yesterday and 22 a day before.
