At least six devotees were killed and 50 injured in a stampede during pulling of Jagannath Rath in Puri on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred due to heavy rush of pilgrims who broke the barricade near the procession. The injured were brought to Puri Hospital where six of them were declared dead on arrival.
Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patanaik visited the hospital and announced Rs 1 lakh exgratia to the kin of the deceased.
