Unprecedented security arrangements marked the eve of Republic Day in Jammu and Kashmir, where the security forces were put on maximum alert to thwart militant attempts aimed at disrupting official functions.
In the past two days, security forces across the valley have foiled at least four militant attempts to cause massive explosions ahead of the Republic Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday.
Barricades have been set up on all roads leading to the Bakshi Stadium, where the main Republic Day parade will be held on Saturday morning.
Sharp-shooters of the paramilitary forces have been deployed on all high rise buildings around the Bakshi Stadium to thwart possible militant attempts to carry out attacks at the main parade venue.
Republic Day functions are also being held at district and tehsil headquarters across the valley, and scores of paramilitary and police contingents have been deployed well ahead of the scheduled functions to sanitise areas in and the around the venues.
All vehicles entering Srinagar are being searched at the barricades, which have come up on major intersections.
