The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted conditional permission to Tamil Nadu for holding the traditional 'Jallikattu,' which involves bull fighting during the festival of Pongal.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said the district authority should ensure the animals are not subjected to cruelty.

It said the event will have to be recorded on video.

Further, the bench said the district authorities will take all precautions to prevent any injury either to the spectators or animals.

Any organisation or club with intent to hold 'Jallikattu' will have to inform the concerned district collector three days prior to the event.

The officials of the Animal Welfare Board will have to witness the event.

The court said that after the event, the Collector will have to give a report within two weeks.

The court passed its order on an application moved by Tamil Nadu government seeking modification of January 11 interim order refusing to vacate the stay on holding 'Jallikattu'.
