Manipur: 11 killed in insurgency-related violence

Eleven people, including six suspected United National Liberation Front insurgents, were killed in two separate incidents in the state, officials sources said on Saturday.

Five other persons were shot dead by suspected Kuki militants in Senapati district of the state, they said.

The six suspected insurgents of the UNLF were killed in an encounter with the Assam Rifles personnel at a border village in Manipur's Chandel district early on Saturday morning, sources said.

The incident occurred when the security personnel were raiding some suspected areas near border pillar number 75, about 123 km south-east from Imphal, sources said adding, the bodies would be brought to Imphal for post mortem.

In another incident on Friday, five persons who were travelling in a jeep were shot dead by suspected Kuki militants in interior Saikul village of Senapati district, sources said.

The victims were identified Paogil Lal (14), Saiboulian Khongsai (15), Jangminlan Hangsing (14), Langgoumang Lhouvum (14) and Haopao Chongloi (67), sources said, adding that Lal, Khongsai, Lhouvum and Hangsing were all students.

Chongloi was self-styled public relations officer of the militant outfit Kuki Revolutionary Army, sources said adding that the five might have been killed by KRA's rival group, Kuki Liberation Army.
