United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, along with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, arrived in Jammu on Friday on a day's visit.
Immediately after her arrival, Sonia left for an aerial survey of the snow-hit areas of Doda and Ramban districts in Jammu region and Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
Sonia is expected to meet senior party leaders in Srinagar and in Jammu.
The Kashmir valley and the hilly districts of Jammu region were hit by heavy snow and avalanches in February.
The home minister is scheduled to review security in Jammu and Kashmir with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior state, army, paramilitary, police and intelligence officials in Srinagar.
