Amid a raging controversy surrounding North Indians in Mumbai, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has suggested that he was jittery to even say he is from Delhi and wanted to do something for his "home town".

With the tirade against North Indians in Mumbai by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena(MNS) showing no signs of ebbing yet,  Shah Rukh broke his silence on the controversy at a media conference in Delhi to announce his new game show on television.

"I was always happy to start something in Delhi, which is my home town. I know it is controversial to say that but ...," chuckled Shah Rukh as he stressed that every Indian has the right to be anywhere in the country and make the nation proud.

The Delhi-born actor, who made his fortune in Mumbai, apparently had the verbal offensive by the MNS leader Raj Thackeray against Amitabh Bachchan in the back of his mind.

Thackeray had said Amitabh was more loyal to his native state.

"Though he (Amitabh) has become a star in Mumbai his interest is in Uttar Pradesh," Thackeray said in the backdrop of the Bachchan family opening a girls college in Barabanki district in UP.
