Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Friday claimed he had received a death threat while he was coming to attend a press conference in Mumbai.
"The caller told me that I will meet the same fate as Ramesh Kini," Singh told reporters later.
"I did not know who Kini was so I asked police who told me that Ramesh Kini was a Mumbai resident, who was killed a decade ago and in whose murder MNS chief Raj Thackeray was implicated," he said.
Singh was talking to the media about allegations of his involvement in recent violence, made by leaders, including Union Agricultural Minister Sharad Pawar.
Singh said Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil has assured him to take action against the accused and ask him to wait for a week.
"But if Patil does not keep his promise we will gherao Mumbai Police Commissioner, Dhananjay Jadhav, as Raj Thackeray was seen in his daughter's wedding after the violent incidents in the city," Singh said.
Asked if police had taken any action after he lodged an FIR against Raj for inciting the violence, Singh said 'no'. "Police are not doing anything... in fact, the state government is trying to save Raj," he said.
Singh accused PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Revenue Minister Narayan Rane and Congress spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam for helping Raj as they share a common past -- all of them were earlier with the Shiv Sena.
"We will not stop performing Chhat Puja here even if we are called as political opportunists," Singh said.
