The BJP on Wednesday asked the Centre to enact an effective law to curb incidents of terrorism, which it claimed was on the rise ever since UPA government assumed office.
"Under the UPA government there is an atmosphere of fear, terror and terrorism in the country. LTTE is raising its head deep South. Insurgency attacks are on the rise in North East," senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu alleged at a press conference in Bangalore.
The UPA government sent a wrong signal by scrapping POTA and not enacting an alternate law to counter terrorism, he said. BJP would ask the government 'to wake up from its deep slumber, give up politics of appeasement, enact an effective anti-terror law and execute Afzal Guru who was condemned to death in the Parliament attack case," Naidu said.
"Execution of Afzal Guru should will send a strong message to terrorists," he said.
Terrorists have spread their activities even in Karnataka, a state known for peace, he added.
He asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to spell out the Centre's action plan to tackle terror activities.
"The country is becoming more and more vulnerable under the UPA government," he alleged.
On the Centre's advice to senior party leader and Leader of Opposition L K Advani to reschedule his public rallies in the wake of threat by terrorist groups to his life, he said the BJP was in the process of drawing up another schedule and would not call off the yatra.
