A Patna court on Monday completed the final hearing in the murder case of Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Ajit Sarkar and fixed February 14 as the date for the pronouncement of its verdict.

Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Pappu Yadav and former MLA Rajan Tiwari, both currently in prison, are among the accused in the case.

During the trial, 61 witnesses were produced by the Central Bureau of Investigation in support of its case, while 27 witnesses were produced by the accused in their defence.

Sarkar, a legislator from Purnea, was shot dead by men allegedly acting on Yadav's orders on June 14, 1998.

Yadav is currently lodged at Tihar jail in Delhi by an order of the Supereme Court. Yadav was shifted to the high-security prison from Patna after alleged violations of the jail manual when he was lodged at Beur jail.

Tiwari, a former legislator from Govindganj, is currently lodged in Patna's Beur jail.
