The Uttar Pradesh police on Monday arrested two gunmen engaged in the personal security of Bahujan Samaj Party legislator Shekhar Tiwari, who is behind bars for allegedly murdering PWD engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta in Auraiya on December 24.
"We suspect Tiwari's gunners Pal Singh and Gajraj Singh, so we arrested them today," UP Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brijlal said on Minday evening.
Asked about former Auraiya district BSP chief Yogendra Kumar Dohre, who was allegedly among the MLA's two cohorts who broke into Gupta's house and beat him to death, Lal said, "We have got orders for attachment of property owned by Dohre."
He confirmed that Dohre was usually referred to as Bhatia, his nickname. "And there is enough evidence to show that he was present along with the MLA when the engineer was attacked."
Sleuths were also busy investigating the "dubious" role of local police inspector Hoshiar Singh, who had since been placed under suspension.
