The issue of sacking Director General of Police A N Roy triggered the noisy scenes in ongoing Maharashtra Assembly session today in Nagpur, leading to house adjournment twice.

The lower house was adjourned by Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar first for 20 minutes followed by another 15 minutes adjournment by panel speaker Harshwardhan Deshmukh.

The Shiv-Sena BJP led opposition demanded that Roy, who had falsely implicated a social activist Rajkumar Awasthi, be sacked from his post.

Continuing their tirade against Roy, opposition leader in the lower house Ramdas Kadam, BJP leaders Gopinath Munde, Eknath Khadse and others demanded that he be arrested.

State Home Minister Jayant Patil on a previous directive of chair today made a written statement over the episode in the house.

Patil informed that then Commissioner of Police, Roy had booked Awasthi under various sections of IPC as offenses were registered against him in Kurla, Tilaknagar and Wakola police stations.

A Bandra court has directed police to register an offense against Roy following a criminal revision application filed by Awasthi.

However, the vacation judge of Bombay High Court stayed the Bandra court order till January 5, Patil informed the house.

The Opposition not satisfied with the reply shouted slogans against Roy.
