Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist from the November 26 terrorist attack on Mumbai who was shifted to Arthur Road Jail for an identification parade, was brought back to Crime Branch lock-up on Monday, police sources said.

"About 20 witnesses, who participated in the identification parade, have identified Kasab. He was brought back to the Crime Branch in the wee hours," one officer said.

Kasab had been taken to the Arthur Road Jail in central Mumbai on Saturday.

On Wednesday, Kasab was remanded to police custody till January 6 by the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in a case related to forcible possession of a Skoda car near Mantralaya (state secretariat) on November 26 night.

Owing to security concerns, the magistrate and the public prosecutor had come to Mumbai police headquarters to extend his police custody.

Kasab and his accomplice Ismail Khan had gunned down three top police officials at Cama Hospital in south Mumbai before hijacking the Skoda car.

The car was stopped by policemen at Girgaun Chowpatty.

While Khan was shot dead by the police, Kasab was caught alive.
