The Congress on Sunday expressed confidence that it would emerge as the single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir and 'determine' the future of the new government.
"The Congress will emerge as the single largest party. And if it is a coalition government, the Congress will determine its future," Union Minister and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress chief Saifuddin Soz said, with early trends of the poll results indicating a hung assembly.
Soz said arch rivals National Conference and People's Democratic Party cannot come together to form a government even if they have the numbers.
"NC and PDP cannot come together. It is impossible. So my party will decide," he said.
The Union Minister said in all probability the next government in Jammu and Kashmir would be led by the Congress.
Asked whether he would favour a Congress-PDP government rather than a Congress-NC government, Soz said his party would take a decision which serves the best interests of the party as well as the country.
On the possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the NC coming together to form the government as the latter was a part of the National Democratic Alliance, he said, "If they have the numbers, who will stop them?"
