Congress lost the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as it failed to put up a united front, party chief Sonia Gandhi said on Wednesday.
She expressed concern over the party's defeat in the two states, while complimenting the performance of the Congress units in winning elections in Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram.
Addressing a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party in New Delhi, Gandhi touched upon the menace of terrorism, which she said, has been rejected as a political issue by the people.
Briefing reporters about the CPP meet, party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said though she was concerned about the defeat of party in the two states, the number of seats Congress has won in MP and Chhattisgarh has increased as compared to the previous polls.
On the party's 3-2 win in the 'semi-finals' ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year, Gandhi regretted that the party could not cash in on the anti-incumbency factor in the two states.
Asked whether accountability would be fixed for the defeat in MP and Chhattisgarh, Ahmed said the party president did not mean lack of coordination but only voiced concern over the results.
