Ismail Khan, an accomplice of arrested terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman alias Kasab, is the one who gunned down three top police officials in a gun battle at Cama Hospital, according to Kasab's statement recorded by the police.

Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare, Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamte and encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar were shot dead by Ismail Khan, who opened fire at the trio after Kasab sustained bullet injuries on his hand at the hospital, he said.

After their hostage plan in Chhattrapati Shivaji Terminus failed, Ajmal said, they moved ahead and went inside Cama Hospital. The duo then decided to move out of the hospital when they saw a police vehicle reach the spot. "After sometime, another vehicle passed us and stopped some distance away," Kasab reportedly told his interrogators.

Karkare, Kamte and Salaskar arrived at the hospital in one of these two vehicles, he said. "A police officer got off from the vehicle and started firing at us. A bullet hit my hand and my AK-47 fell out of my hand."

"When I bent to pick it up, another bullet hit me on the same hand," Kasab reportedly said. "Then Ismail opened fire at the officers in the vehicle. They got injured and firing from their side stopped. We waited for a while and went towards the vehicle," he said.

"There were three bodies in the vehicle. Ismail removed the bodies and drove the vehicle," he added.
