At least three persons were killed  and about 30 others injured when  a powerful bomb explosion ripped through the coach No 8209 of Guwahati-Tinsukia passenger train near Diphu Railway station  in Karbi Anglong Hill district of Assam at around 8:15 this morning.

One of the passengers was killed on the spot. The injured were admitted to local hospital while seriously injured were rushed to Railway hospital in Lumding in Central Assam's Nagaon district.

Security forces and Government Railway Police personnel have launched rescue operation in the area while the other coaches of the train were being sanitized.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the blasts. Security sources informed that a tribal militant group called Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF)  which is active in the  hill district of the state, had issued a threat about 10 days ago to disrupt train services through Karbi Anglong hill district.

Senior Railway and police officials have rushed to the incident site near Diphu Railway station where the blast-hit train has remained stranded with panic-stricken people running in all directions leaving behind their belongings. Details are being awaited.
