Seven suspected Students Islamic Movement of India activists, who were picked up from Kota about a week ago for interrogation in connection with May 13 serial blasts in Jaipur, have been remanded into police custody till September 7.

The seven accused Imran alias Raza, Najakat, Mehandi Hasan, Amanullah alias Aman, Dr Yunus, Taufiq and Dr Ishaq were formally arrested on Monday and were later produced before a local court.

They are charged with acts like strengthening the network of banned outfit SIMI, creating social hatred and provoking people.

The arrests coincided with the arrest of Jaipur serial blasts key player Shahbaz Hussain by the Rajasthan and the Uttar Pradesh police in Lucknow on Monday.

Hussain was a key player in planting bombs in Jaipur, selecting venues for carrying blasts and was also instrumental in mobilising resources, a Rajasthan police spokesman said in Jaipur.

Hussain is said to be key aide to Jaipur blasts mastermind Sajid Mansoori.
