Pakistan has insisted that Kashmiri people should be involved in the peace process with India to resolve the Kashmir issue.

During a meeting in Islamabad with a Hurriyat delegation, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The delegation members expressed "concern on the recent unrest and violence and the use of force" in the state.

Qureshi "reaffirmed Pakistan's political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmir cause and stressed the need to associate the people of Kashmir with the peace process," said a statement issued by the foreign office.

Among the Kashmiri leaders who met Qureshi on Tuesday were Ghulam Nabi Fai, Syed Yusuf Naseem, Ghulam Safi, Rafiq Dar and Nazir Quraishi.

The meeting offered special prayers for Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiris who died in recent violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan's National Assembly on Tuesday approved the setting up of a special committee to monitor the "human rights situation" in Jammu and Kashmir and to "mobilise world opinion in support of the right of self-determination" for the Kashmiri people.
