In yet another instance of kidnapping in Bihar, a 23-year-old MBA student Pratibha Anand was kidnapped from Patna for ransom, police sources said on Saturday.

Pratibha, a student of MBA at Patna-based Zakir Hussain Management Insitutute, was kidnapped from Digha police station area on Thursday when she was returning to her residence after depositing college fees.

Her father Amrendra Kumar Singh, an official with the Post and Telegraph Department, had lodged a kidnapping case in the police station.

"I had lodged a case after I received a ransom call from abductors for her safe release" Singh told rediff.com in Patna.

The abductors demanded the ransom twice ."I received two ransom calls; on Thursday night as well as on Friday," Singh said.

Digha police station Officer in Charge N K Singh said that a missing case was registered and the police have launched an operation to trace her.

Pratibha's family is in the state of shock after the ransom calls by abductors. They are worried as her marriage was fixed and scheduled by the end of this year.

Kidnapping has become a thriving industry in Bihar. Professionals, businessmen and school students from well-off families are often the target of kidnappers.

Hundreds of professionals have migrated to other states or have sent their children to boarding schools elsewhere to escape the dragnet of kidnappers.
