In the wake of a person's photograph appearing 53 times in the draft electoral roll at the Metiaburuz Assembly constituency, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Bannerjee on Monday demanded immediate scrapping of the entire electoral roll in West Bengal.

"Since this is a serious instance of irregularities in the draft voters' list, I demand that the entire electoral roll of the state be immediately scrapped and a fresh one prepared. The concerned organisation should be blacklisted," said Banerjee.

The roll was published on July 31.

Distributing a copy of the erroneous roll to the press, where the person's photograph is seen appearing 53 times against different names, Banerjee said her party had drawn attention of the state election department.

The leader said she would take up the matter with the Election Commission if the voters' list in Metiaburuz constituency was not immediately corrected.

"We demand an error-free voters' list for the entire state," she said.

When contacted, the state's Chief Electoral Officer, Debasish Sen, told PTI that he had been informed by the media about the matter, but no formal complaint had been lodged with his department in this regard.

He said that it appeared to be a 'technical error' that a person's photograph was published 53 times in the list. "If a complaint is filed with my office, the matter will be looked into," Sen added.
