11 fodder scam convicts get jail terms

A special Central Bureau of Investigation court which on April 23 convicted 35 people in a fodder scam case, awarded prison terms to 11 of them on Tuesday.

CBI judge Manoranjan Kavi sentenced them to prison terms ranging from three to seven years and also slapped fines ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 21 lakh.

Two prominent convicts given jail sentences, were the former regional director of the animal husbandry department, D Junil Bhengraj and ex-district AHD officer Dr Vinay Kumar.

Bhengraj got a seven-year prison term and a fine of Rs 21 lakh, while Kumar got seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11 lakh.

In all, 35 people were convicted in connection with case number RC 23a/96 pertaining to fradulent withdrawal of Rs 15.37 crore from the Jamshedpur treasury in the early 1990s.

The judge will award punishment to the remaining 23 people on Wednesday.
